Why does he do it?

Welcome to my occasional blog where I post and comment on any pictures I think are worth a word or two. Hope you enjoy them and the comments might be of some use.

It is lovely to be "freed" from the Image of the Day treadmill, although I must admit I did like it for at least 900 of the 1000!

Today I went out to recce a walk I am leading on Tuesday so I had a great stroll in the sun with as much as time to take pictures as I wanted.  I managed a few previously untaken shots on this well walked (by me) path.

This is a much taken image of Horsedale just north of Huggate which I have snapped any number of times.  This time I have tried to emphasise the interlocking spurs of land and the sinuous dale floor which, although it is green in the original, is rather overwhelmed. The mono version is designed to highlight the form by removing the distracting colour.

Anyway, I think it improves the photo and strips it down to basics.

 Starting up again

Well, time to rev up the old blog again.  It is almost 5 years since I posted on here.

I have been concentrating on Flickr and have just finished 1000 days of Images of the Day there.

You can go to www.flickr.com/photos/howarew to see the last 5 years of my photography whilst I have been away from here.

I am restarting with an image which I have been looking at for a while to try and coax out the best from it.  I think I am almost there.

It is an amaryllis flower which I think I have made dance.  What do you think?
